David Cook was given the chance to do an arrangement of the Simple Minds song “Don’t You (Forget About Me), that would be played for the American Idol’s who would unfortunately be sent home on season 10 in 2011. Cook has joked about how it must be a little bitter sweet for those contestants who have to hear his voice immediately following their elimination from the show. The song starts like a race horse out of a gate. It comes out of nowhere. In a great way though. It starts with this incredible energy, that keeps up throughout the entirety of the song. It’s a great call back to the original song by Simple Minds, while introducing a new, updated rock flavour. The song is only elevated by Cook’s fantastic, raspy, raw vocals. The song though is a bad-ass rendition of the original and holds up just as well. Cook did perform the song live on the final show of that season and it held up live. But then again, Cook never really seems to be one to disappoint often. The song didn’t make his 2011 record This Loud Morning but I don’t mind now having heard the record, it would have stuck out like a sore thumb, that being said, it would’ve made a great bonus track, but it’s all good. The song rocks, and sounds awesome loud.
