The Upcoming Acoustic Tour

So as we are all well aware, Cook is ramping up for an acoustic tour starting at the end of the month. I’ve seen Cook live 3 times now, including once on the American Idol tour in Toronto in 2018. I would love to have seen him more but he rarely comes to Canada. Anyway, I’ve never seen him acoustically. So I thought I’d put together a post about some of the things I’d like to see and what I’m looking forward to.

A Daily AntheM. First things first, why the hell doesn’t David play this song anymore. This was my favourite David Cook song until Circadian dropped, and is still my favourite song off the it’s respective album. Not only would it be great to see him perform this song again, but it would be so interesting to hear this one acoustically. It’s loud and anthemic (ha) and would be very cool to hear in an acoustic setting. Also, anytime I’ve seen David play this song live, he’s not playing the guitar and just recently David broke his hand/wrist, so, does this son become even more of a contender? I never thought of this song as an underdog or a dark horse before, but I think it might be. My fingers will be crossed the whole show for this one.

Speaking of Circadian, this is another song he never plays anymore, and this is my favourite David Cook song. If he played this song I may collapse. The only reason I have this under A Daily AntheM is because I’ve never heard Circadian live before and I can’t help but to think that it’s one I’d like to hear with the full band, plugged in. Don’t get me wrong, I’d still fall over if he played this tune. Enough with the song requests, until the bottom of this post. I’m excited to see the songs he is going to play in a new light. He’s always seemed to do this on videos I’ve seen online, and in interviews leading up to the show he’s been teasing that these songs will been represented a little differently. So this I am excited for.

His voice. Cook’s voice is so damn good, I can only imagine what it’s like to hear it with a stripped down instrumental to support him. This is arguably my most anticipated part of the show. Like I said, I’ve never seen his acoustic set, so hearing the raw voice of David will be great.

The new single. Duh.

Another thing I’m sure I’ll have to look forward to are the stories. Again, from what I’ve seen online, he’s known for sharing a more in depth look into each/most of the songs he plays before he plays them. I’m really stoked to hear my favourite artist talk about these songs I’ve been listening too for a decade now. Notably the story he told regarding Permanent is heartbreaking. Now, I don’t need him to play/tell the story on this song, but I’m just saying, these stories are a characteristic I’ve come to learn are a part of the acoustic shows, I’m pumped for them.

I’ve seen the videos, Fade Into Me acoustic, live. Now I don’t actually LOVE this song like his other ballads such as Lie, Goodbye to the Girl, Better Than Me, etc. but there’s a moment where Cook just steps away from the mic (He did this during a few shows) and he just sings to a room full of silent listeners, in awe (at least I would have been). By the end of the song, the listeners take in what David sang and they start to sing back the last chorus softy. Behind my computer screen I was moved, I can’t fathom what that was like live. Not that I NEED a moment like this, or even NEED him to perform Fade Into Me, but if spontaneous moments like this are what my friends and I are in for when we see David Cook live in Ann Arbour on November 3, than disregard my previous wants/needs from the show and do what you do best David Cook.

Here are 10 songs, if I got to pick, I’d like to hear that night. (Not my favourite songs, just 10 I’d like to hear acoustically)

1. A Daily AntheM

2. Paper Heart

3. Circadian

4. Bar-Ba-Sol (Kiss & Tell worked so well acoustically)

5. Ghost Magnetic

6. Mr. Sensitive

7. Declaration

8. Better Than Me

9. Wait For Me

10. Light On

A few honourary picks. (I know that defeats the purpose of a top 10 but, think of it as an encore)

11. Lie 12. Carry You 13. Avalanche
